Challenge your skills with something which seems unlikely at first glance, but which makes sense after a little experimentation.
Release a cylinder into a beaker full of hot water - the cylinder sinks and then floats back up. Release the other cylinder in another beaker, this time containing cold water - the cylinder floats for a moment before sinking to the bottom. The same thing happens when you swap the cylinders over. How is this possible? To explain this experiment, you have to combine your knowledge of density with your knowledge of thermal expansion.
