The wind-up radio is powered by a built-in rechargeable battery that can be charged using the solar cell or the built-in hand crank generator. The radio also has a micro USB connection so that the battery can be charged from a computer or with the mobile charger. In addition, the radio can be powered by three ordinary AAA batteries (LR03, art. no. 98203, not included). With the phone's charging lead, the radio can be used to charge your mobile phone. When the battery is fully charged, it can power the radio for up to 12 hours at low volume. If the radio’s lamp is used instead, it can shine for around 18 hours. The radio also has an alarm function where a siren sounds and a red LED flashes at the same time.
The radio prompts discussions about energy conversions and about the environment.
