Demonstration of how light is conducted in an optical fibre.
Today, telecom and data traffic is often sent as light pulses in a fibre-optic cable instead of as electrical current in copper wires. Light is sent into one end of an optical fibre, and thanks to total reflection emerges from the other end without "leaking" along the way.
Total reflection can be demonstrated by illuminating with a torch at one end of the fibre models and watching the light emerge at the other end. The plastic in the fibre models is translucent, and one side is painted white. With the painted side at the bottom the spreading of the light can be seen in the fibre model, otherwise the light is not visible in the fibre.
Material: Plastic, clear/translucent. One side painted white.
Set of one straight and one bent prism.
Dimensions: 1.5x1.5x22 cm (straight prism).
Accessories: Torch (art. no. 59009), ordered separately.
