A simple experiment which shows that two steel balls fall equally quickly, even if one of them is launched horizontally.
Place the throwing apparatus on the edge of a table and tension the throwing arm. Place the two identical steel balls on the throwing arm, one at either end. When the arm is released, one ball falls straight down while the other is launched horizontally. Although one ball has farther to travel, they land on the floor at the same time - a simple and classic experiment that's both surprising and persuasive.
Tip: Carry out your experiment in a dark room with a black cloth behind the throwing apparatus, and with a flashing stroboscope. Have a camera take a photo throughout the entire experiment (slow shutter speed). See the illustration below. The picture can be used for discussions and calculations.
